Shopping
The nearest shop is a short walk away in the village of Pilona. There are two local shops, each stocking essential items such as bread, milk, drinks, toiletries etc. Locally baked bread is delivered fresh every morning. There is a larger supermarket stocking a good range of products at thejunction to the main road (a few minutes drive away). Lardos is a great village for 'local' shopping. Here you will find a good quality butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer. There is also a small supermarket. Lardos is a working village, so many locals shop here. Unfortunately language barriers may be a problem, we recommend you take a phrase book with you, or on the plus side, this is an excellent opportunity to practice conversing in Greek!
The best bakery on the island is in Pefkos, just to the other side of Lardos. It is well signposted on the way into the village. Alternatively, anew branch of Pefkos Bakery has now opened on the main road in Kalathos.
The majority of tourist shops and supermarkets are open from early morning (8am) to late evening (11pm). However, traditional stores or large department stores in Rhodes town usually open 9am-1pm, then 5pm-9pm.
Petrol
The nearest petrol stations are either in Lardos or on the main road in Kalathos. It is customary to tell the assistant how much fuel you want, and he will fill the car for you. Petrol stations are usually open from 7am-8pm.
Money
The nearest ATMs are in Lardos or Lindos. When using the machines, it is usually the 'checking account' option for regular bank accounts. Be aware that your money comes out before your card - it is very easy to forget your card and leave it in the machine! Travellers cheques can be cashed at most hotels, or in Lindos at any of the travel agents or banks.
Although most tavernas, larger shops and tourist attractions now take cards, it is adviseable to carry some cash with you just in case.
